Lg Tv Says Unknown Error Please Try Again

Have you purchased a LG "Smart TV" and plant yourself inundated with "Unknown Device Is Disconnected" messages? Well, let me show you how to permanently rid yourself of that nuisance.

After having a bad experience with an LG computer monitor many years ago, the final matter I would ever do is buy an LG TV. This LG 43UJ6300 43" Ultra Hard disk drive TV was manufactured on October 2017 and came pre-loaded with firmware v03.60.50. It was purchased for me by a Best Buy customer service representative on November 22, 2017 as an "equal replacement" for a Sharp 42" HDTV whose backlight had died nether the terms of their All-time Buy extended warranty I had purchased. The TV it replaced was a 42" regular HDTV, so I idea they were doing me a favor by giving me ane inch bigger and Ultra Hard disk.  Little did I know that the smart Tv was really dumb.

I was okay with information technology as a replacement at beginning, even though it lacks a headphone output jack similar the old TV had.  I had to buy a digital out converter to turn the digital out output into a headphone jack for those times when I want to watch loud Television receiver late at dark. For a twelvemonth and a one-half, I had no issues with it. Of course, I was only using information technology as a regular Television set. I had no interest in connecting information technology to the Internet or using any of its "smart" features. That all inverse in May 2019 when WWE appear that they would be discontinuing back up for the WWE Network on PlayStation 3. I figured I'd use the WWE Network app through the LG TV I already owned, instead of paying $30 for a Roku Express stick. I would have had less headaches if I just paid the $30 and got the Roku.

On May 14, 2019 I started using the Idiot box with the cyberspace for the first fourth dimension e'er. The first thing I did was try to connect wirelessly to the router I have in the same room equally the TV. It but hung on trying to discover the wifi networks. That should have been my first sign that this Television's "smart" features are a slice of crap. After exiting out and going back into the network settings, it found my router and there was no problem setting it up. I then set about downloading all of the apps I have/had on the PS3: WWE Network, Netflix, Vudu, Amazon Prime Video, Crackle, and YouTube. I too updated the Tv set'due south firmware, which involved going from v03.lx.50 to v4.70.03, then to v5.lxxx.02, and finally to v5.80.fifteen (which may not be the current anymore, merely I'm not updating whatsoever further).

For a short while, the Internet-connected Boob tube worked fine. And then I decided to change to a wired Cyberspace connexion. As the TV started to prove ads and other garbage pop-ups every time I turned it on - I don't need to be reminded every time that it has a wired connection - I decided to unplug the Internet connection and just plug it dorsum in when needed. From this signal on, the TV had a listen of its ain. There were several instances where it would restart (shut off and turn back on) without me doing anything. There were times when information technology was connected with a wired Internet connection, however it would even so show pop-upward messages maxim it was asunder...only to magically be connected again two or three seconds afterwards! On 1 night, Netflix played SO poorly on the TV, that I opted to connect the wire dorsum to the PS3, where Netflix played beautifully. At this indicate, I decided to say "screw you" to the "Smart TV" and just buy that Roku stick later this year on Blackness Friday. (I don't need it correct now as my sister has ane on her TV, so I tin can watch the WWE Network there for the time being.)

The TV, apparently, realized I wasn't going to put upward with its crap and decided to go all "Maximum Overdrive" on me. I mean it didn't try to kill me. Well, it hasn't...yet. Only that's when information technology decided to annoy the Hell out of me by popping upwards a non-descriptive "Unknown Device Is Disconnected" bulletin in the upper right corner of the screen several times each hour. Sometimes several times every few seconds. I did a web search and tried everything that other users had suggested, until I institute the one thing that permanently solved the trouble for me.

The crusade of the problem is the Wifi Module within the Television receiver, though it also may be how a certain firmware version communicates with the Wifi Module. The only mode to permanently solve the trouble - aside from buying a new, not-LG Goggle box - is to open up your TV and either make clean, replace, or disconnect the Wifi Module. Also, practise non upgrade the firmware, if you oasis't done then already. Sadly, LG does non provide an choice in the TV's software to disable pop ups in Home mode; that selection only appears in store mode, which does not salvage picture and sound settings. That's why opening upward the TV is the only fashion to go. (You can click on all of the images below to have enlargements opened in a new window, and then you lot tin can accept a better expect at the details.)

What I'grand about to demonstrate should only be done for TVs that are no longer under the one-year warranty.  If your Television set is still nether warranty, phone call LG and have them handle it.  Opening your Tv set will, likely, void the warranty. Please practice Non eastward-mail service me or post comments asking how to do this on other model TVs.  They volition all, likely, accept the same wifi module component in the same place, or someplace very like, but they will take a dissimilar number of screws and different placement of the screws on the dorsum.  You volition have to figure that out.  Use this as a general guide for other LG TVs, but not every bit an exact guide.

ane. Locate all of the screws on the back of your TV. The 43UJ6300 has 8 screws: 6 along the bottom, 1 past the side connectors, and 1 well-nigh-hidden by the back connectors.

2. You *MAY* as well have to remove the legs, if you have your Television receiver standing on its own instead of being affixed to a wall. I'm non 100% sure you need to remove the legs, but I did information technology anyhow.

3. In one case you open it up, you'll be surprised by how lilliputian in that location is within. The Wifi Module is located at the bottom middle of the unit, right next to the power push.

Image

4. The Wifi Module is held in place by the Wifi Subclass. On this TV, the bracket actually says "Wifi Bracket" on it. There is only one silvery screw holding it to the Tv, which is clearly visible on the right side. The top of the bracket is besides clipped nether part of the TV, simply that'll be easily to see once you unscrew it. (Annotation: If you're merely disconnecting information technology, you *may* be able to disconnect the white ribbon cable running from the main board to the summit of the wifi module without having to remove the bracket. That said, it'll be easier and safer to remove it after unscrewing the bracket, as y'all don't want to impairment anything.)

5. Here we see the 43UJ6300'due south Wifi Module, which is fastened to the subclass. For this TV, the sticker lists a LG Role Number of "EAT63435701" with a industry date of September fourteen, 2017. The module itself is branded with a Product Name of "RF Module" and a Model Proper noun of "LGSWFAC71".

You have a few options on what to do next, depending on whether yous want to wirelessly connect the Telly to the Cyberspace or not.

A. If yous will NOT BE USING WIRELESS INTERNET, as was my instance, you can simply (but carefully) disconnect the white ribbon cable from the Wifi Module. You tin easily come across information technology in the photograph higher up. Mine took a little bit of effort to unclip from the module, but it was still really easy. You lot tin still use a wired Internet connection, if you desire, or just go out the Television set every bit a Idiot box and use Roku (or a like device) for "Smart Goggle box" features.

B. If you Desire TO Utilise WIRELESS INTERNET, BUT DON'T WANT TO SPEND Whatsoever MONEY, you lot can disconnect the white ribbon cablevision from the Wifi Module, clean the connectors with a microfibre fabric, then reconnect it. Some users take reported success with this, while others say that the message eventually comes back.

C. If you WANT TO USE WIRELESS Cyberspace, AND Want A SOMEWHAT GUARANTEED PERMANENT SOLUTION, y'all tin can purchase a new Wifi Module. They are really cheap. For this TV, a LGSWFAC71 Wifi Module would cost almost $10 to $20. Searching for EAT63435701 brings up different results for nigh the same price.

6. Since I chose to disconnect the Wifi Module, I taped the loose ribbon cable to the inside of the TV with a note saying, "Wifi Module disconnected, and so as to disable 'Unknown Device is Disconnected' bulletin." That way if anyone e'er looks in in that location in the time to come, it will exist known what was done :-)

Image

And that's all in that location is to it. My Wifi Module has been disconnected for over two weeks now, and the "Unknown Device is Disconnected" message has never appeared again. I hope that this Television lasts me a really long fourth dimension, but if it doesn't, I promise that I'one thousand never saddled with another LG product ever over again. LG truly stands for "Like Garbage".

Large thank you to all of the fellow LG TV owners on these forum threads: LG: Annoying message pops up on my TV, LG: Unknown Device Disconnected pop up, LG: Unknown device is asunder keeps popping upwardly every few minutes, CNET: unknown device is disconnected LG TVs solved, and CNET: Bulletin on LG TV. The Unknown Device message photograph was taken past LG forum user Harkanwal Singh.
